Iván Duque’s candidate for the International Criminal Court fared badly

This Wednesday the International Criminal Court presented the report on the results obtained by the nominees for judges for that organization.

He President Iván Duque nominated the current superintendent of Industry and Commerce, Andrés Barreto, who is his personal friend. Paradoxically, it came out cracked in many important aspects that an official nominated for that position should have.

The document says the following:

“The commission observed that is unfamiliar with international criminal law, international humanitarian law or criminal procedure, and that his professional experience has been in fields that are not relevant to the work of the court. “

On the court’s rating scale, Barreto obtained the second worst qualification “only formally qualified”, which means that he meets the requirements of the Rome Statute to be a judge, but it seems that due to his professional experience he would not contribute much to this international organization.
