Senator Iván Cepeda referred to La Veranera, a farm that Juan Guillermo Monsalve’s family bought approximately six years ago.

According to the congressman, he “has testified against Álvaro Uribe for nine years. Monsalve’s family has a very clear difference with him and Mr. Óscar Monsalve, who is his father, is a witness for Uribe. So if there has been any kind of bribery, it comes from that side, “he said.

It added that “in the self-injunction of February 2018, the Court found that Mr. Juan Guillermo Villegas, who is an ally of Uribe, offered money to Mr. Óscar Monsalve, father of Juan Guillermo Monsalve.”

With respect to attorney general, Francisco BarbosaCepeda assured that it is not true that a challenge was not presented to him and his deputy prosecutor so that he would not take the process against the former president.

“He knows very well that he was notified by us of that request for recusal. We have also challenged Deputy Prosecutor, Mr. (Gabriel) JaimesWell, we have factual and legal arguments that are there, ”he said.

One of these arguments, he pointed out, is that “the prosecutor who charged Mr. Diego Cadena said that the former senator Alvaro Uribe He was not aware of the possible crimes he was committing and there is a prejudice that was established institutionally by the Prosecutor’s Office, so we believe that there is partiality in the actions of the prosecutor Barbosa ”.

However, he clarified, if the Supreme Court decides that his request is inadmissible, “we will abide by its decision (…) even though we do not agree with that supposed impartiality.”

Cepeda also spoke about the letter that Luis Guillermo Echeverri, manager of Iván Duque’s presidential campaign, sent to El País.

“It seems to me a rude censorship of freedom of expression and also a bit provincial by a government official believing that he can prevent the major international media from exercising their function, which is to impartially report on all the opinions that exist on such a matter. serious, ”he said.

“It seems to me that this is an attitude typical of a government that has autocratic manners,” he added.

Likewise, he defended his procedure in the case against Álvaro Uribe, stating: “I am not hiring advertising companies, nor do I have warehouses in social networks, nor have I put the opposition bench to carry out any campaign, nor have I asked him to take part in my sake. My thing is simply to express my opinion, which is the truth, and act with transparency ”.

According to him, he has “called for serenity in this case, I have called for respect for the judicial authorities, something that former senator Uribe has not done, who has unleashed a campaign to stone the Supreme Court of Justice.”
