Iota storm: effects on the Colombian Caribbean – Barranquilla – Colombia

Iota is the tropical storm that has strengthened and affects the Colombian Caribbean during this weekend. According to Ideam, the phenomenon has caused heavy rains that in some sectors have been accompanied by electric shocks.

Experts have also announced that during this Saturday winds of up to 56 kilometers per hour can be registered, related to the natural phenomenon that moves towards the west of Colombia.

In Barranquilla the alarms of the aid agencies are lit, because the rains have been constant since the early hours of this Saturday. In several sectors of the city and its metropolitan area, there is fear due to the flow of streams.

Ideam also pointed out that the departments and sectors that require greater prevention due to the arrival of Iota are: La Guajira, Cesar and Magdalena.

However, care should be extended to all departments, taking into account account that many of its inhabitants are next to rivers or in areas with danger of landslides.
