The Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam) warned that in the next few hours hurricane Iota reaches a higher category Y have a direct impact on the island of Providencia, directly affecting the entire archipelago of San Andrés.
The director of Ideam, Yolanda González, traveled to San Andrés to be in charge of the crisis room. Gónzalez indicated that Iota became category 1 early this Sunday and It is located 440 km from Providencia and 480 km from San Andrés.
The island authorities take extreme measures and they have decreed a curfew starting this Sunday afternoon.
