That weekend, Guidany Betancourt and her daughters had stayed at their mother’s apartment in the Colina sector, in the town of Suba, but on Sunday, October 11, they wanted to return to their home in the south of Bogotá.

While the grandmother stayed with one of the girls, Guidany went with the eldest to a TransMilenio station that runs the Suba-Santa Isabel route. “I took the seven, which stops at all stations. When I got on the bus I realized that there were not many people, distances were respected ”.

Everything was going well until, at the height of Avenida Chile, mother and daughter took out their cell phones to send some messages. “It made me want to talk to my mom. We were in the last car, in the chairs near the doors of the bus. I did see a young man, but I didn’t suspect ”.

In addition to the reward of up to 20 million pesos for those who give information that allows finding criminals, the Metropolitan Police of Bogota revealed the spoken portrait of who would be one of those responsible for this homicide that shocked the city.

This murder had a great impact on the public as it was the first homicide on a bus in service of the TransMilenio system in the 20-year history of this public transport system.

Everything indicates that there are three aggressors who would be related to this crime. With the identification of one of them, it is expected that his capture will occur in the next few days.

Guidany only saw that the edge was reaching his chest and that she as an immediate reaction only managed to put her forearm. A young man of 1.80 tall, dark, with cute highlights, tattoos of crosses on his hand and an eyebrow piercing wanted to take away their cell phones at all costs.

While the attacker directed his weapon, the girl reacted and to protect her mother she put her hand on her chest. “At that moment, the robber wounded her. The gun went through my girl’s hand and hit my skin. ”

But although they were both injured, the robber did not stop attacking them, gathered momentum and attacked them unceremoniously. “There he hurt my girl for the second time. And as if it weren’t terrifying enough, the guy started combing my daughter’s hair with the dagger he used to attack us ”.

While Guidany was in shock, the girl kicked as she was trying to defend herself and thanks to the fact that she is an athlete she did not stay still, that caused difficulty for the aggressor. “I remember that a boy tried to grab the guy, but he also threatened to kill him. In this case, I must say that the public did react ”.

In the middle of the struggle, the cell phone fell to the floor. “While that was happening, the guy was saying all kinds of rude things to me. That’s when I realized that I was a foreigner. The guy tried to bend down to pick up his cell phone, but as he was so tall it was difficult for him. I stepped on the cell phone out of rage. They had already robbed me in May. They pointed a gun at me and took another phone from me, so I had bought another one that was not high-end, but it was striking. ”

But that reaction made the robber more aggressive, so it was that in full view of everyone he began to direct his knife at the women’s legs.
“I lived 30 years in Venezuela. Don’t ask me why, but it is very common to target that part of the body to intimidate the victim during robberies. After that, the guy picked up something from the floor and stopped to hurt my face, that’s when he made the second wound on my arm ”.

Then everything is fuzzy. The assailant tried to run, but several passengers came out to chase him. Even women joined the search. “When the guy jumped over the rail of the Avenida Chile station, I saw that something fell off him. I thought it was the knife. “

While the woman shouted that he had injured her, she heard murmurs that the criminal had been captured. “Suddenly I heard my girl’s voice: ‘Mommy, Mommy, come’. He showed me my cell phone – so the guy took the lining – and then his injured hand, full of blood, you could see everything, tendons, everything, the bone. I wanted to die at that moment ”.

Mother

Guidany Betancourt and her daughter were victims of an attack by a young man in TransMilenio.

Guidany says she was surprised that no one from TransMilenio helped her. “The bus driver was eager to leave, no one came to give us first aid. My daughter got sick and nobody from that company helped us, we never signed a blog, it is as if they wanted to ignore these cases “.

At the next station, mother and daughter got out and only then did a policeman call them. “He told us if we were able to identify the assailant and asked us about his appearance. There he explained to us that we had to return to the 72nd station, where another police officer was waiting for us “. Everything happened while a minor was injured and taking the same system.

They reached the police car, located under the bridge. “Oh surprise, there was the attacker. I got upset, I got hysterical, but my daughter told her: ‘you stabbed me’ ”. When the policemen told him that she was a girl of only 13 years old, he was pale. Then Guidany warned that she was going to file a complaint, but she needed to take the girl to a doctor. “The policemen took me to a place and I had to bear all the expenses. They took points from everything ”.

Armed with courage they went to the La Granja Immediate Reaction Unit. “There we met again with the guy and he told us that he had already confessed, that we forgive him, that he was stressed because they had stolen him in the morning and that he had to vent.”

The robber turned out to be a 19-year-old boy identified as Ricardo Javier García Rodríguez. “I must say that the police and the CTI agents did behave very well and accompanied us in the process of the complaint.”

Guidany was getting over this incident when he learned of the death of Oswaldo Muñoz Palacios. “It was the same way. That’s where I thought: we could have died ”.
Mother and daughter were affected.

“My daughter and her father are Venezuelans. She is affected, hears the accent on the street and is scared. It makes me sad when he tells me that he wants to remove his nationality. I tell him that this is not the case, that they are not all, but who takes that image out of his head ”.

Guidany knows that this feeling is not good because he experienced discrimination in Venezuela firsthand. “And the worst thing is that I have many good, hardworking Venezuelan friends who are saying the same thing.”

For physical injuries, they should seek a private orthopedist to determine the degree of involvement. “Preciso had a new contract and I lost him. Everything has been expenses ”.
Today, mother and daughter only want justice, to thank the ‘angels’ who helped them and for TransMilenio to tell them why no one from that company helped them.

This case joins the murder of Oswaldo Muñoz Palacios on October 30, also on a TransMilenio bus. The company was informed of this fact and confirmed to EL TIEMPO that the case did not appear in its records.
