Mayor Felipe Harman confirmed that Laverde Hernández escaped yesterday afternoon from the vigilance of the guards who transferred him to the clinical center and that he would be armed.

The authorities indicate that he has a history of sexual exploitation of minors, aggravated theft and homicide.

The Police deployed the search operation with more than 40 police officers in the neighborhoods of San José and Colinas, residents of Barzal, where they took the escape route, according to witnesses who were giving information to the authorities about Laverde Hernández.

The mayor noted that it is not known if the inmate has covid-19.

In turn, it was learned that another inmate who has the virus and is a drug user regained his freedom and walks the streets of the city. His brother told via video that he did not want to receive him at home for fear that he would infect a member of his family, made up of his wife who is pregnant and their 18-month-old daughter.

Mayor Harman said that the prisoners “are flying out of the noses of the Inpec that, irresponsibly, does not respect public health controls and protocols, being unable to carry out its duties.”

And he asked to change the directors of the jail and the Unit of Penitentiary and Prison Services (Uspec): “The national government must make decisions regarding the prison, if this director does not serve … and the director of the Uspec does not serve … because he has to assume changes, but they cannot continue to endanger Villavicencio’s public health conditions”, Harman stated.

Until this Thursday, in the department of Meta, 938 cases of covid-19 have been detected, 866 of them in the Villavicencio prison, that is, 92 percent.
