In its most recent CPI report, the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane) revealed that, for August of the current year, inflation was at -0.01%, which represents a slight drop compared to July 2020, when a total of 0% was recorded. With this, the entity explains that, so far in 2020, inflation reaches 1.2%.

Juan Daniel Ovedo, director of Dane, pointed out that the CPI for August is mainly explained by the variation in information, communication and transport prices.

Education had a monthly variation of -3.48%, being the smallest of all. This, due to the decrease in prices of subclasses of enrollment and enrollment in technical, technological and university careers.

“There was a decrease in demand on the higher education system that has represented a response in rate adjustments to allow the continuity of students or the interest of others in entering the system,” explained Oviedo.

Information and communication had a monthly variation corresponding to 3.60%. The Dane also revealed that Armenia has the highest monthly variation in inflation with 0.44%, associated with mobile phone plans, and tariff adjustments in water supply and garbage collection.

Oviedo added that “the behavior was mainly explained by the year-to-date variation of the food and non-alcoholic beverages and accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels divisions.”
