“While several women from the Nasa community were grazing the cattle, they were surprised by some soldiers who shot at them”, denounced the counselor, Giovanni Yule, of the Cauca Regional Indigenous Council (CRIC).

According to Yule, the women alerted the community, which reacted by retaining the uniformed men, including four policemen, and left them at the disposal of the ethnic authorities.

In the afternoon, an assembly of the regional Ombudsman, the Procurator’s Office, a delegate from the Cauca Government and the municipality’s secretary of government, made a presence in the area, the councilor confirmed.

At the meeting, the control agencies, which operate as mediators, establish with the indigenous authorities the mechanism through which the community will deliver the uniformed officers.

The CRIC also denounced that this is not the first attack of which the community is a victim by the uniformed.

“On Saturday, the community had gone out to graze the cattle and unfortunately found 30 poisoned reces and on Sunday, while they were cleaning the paddock of the poison, they also shot at them,” Yule added.

That day, the community also held eight soldiers who were handed over to the provincial delegate of the Office of the Attorney General and to the municipal government secretary.
