This Friday, October 2, Deportivo Independiente Medellín confirmed the arrival of Javier Álvarez as the new coach of the Antioquia team, replacing Aldo Bobadilla. Álvarez will complete his third cycle, after he was a coach in 2005 and a technician in charge in 2015, in addition to having held the position of sports manager from November 2013 to June 2015.
Through a statement, the team confirmed the arrival of the 61-year-old from Antioquia with Humberto Sierra as technical assistant and Jesús Alberto Duque as physical trainer. “Equipo del Pueblo SA announces the hiring of the new working group that will command the professional team of Deportivo Independiente Medellín. The Roja family is joined by the technical director Javier Álvarez, the technical assistant Humberto Sierra and the physical trainer Jesús Alberto Duque. Three men of trajectory in Colombian and international soccer who arrive with the firm objective of continuing to strengthen the Institution’s sports project ”.
Regarding the choice of coach Álvarez, the club specified that “based on the journey of Professor Álvarez and his collaborators in the training processes of the Antioquia and Colombia Teams, the new coaching staff will have the challenge of leveraging and enhancing the talent of the current professional staff and together with the sports committee, evaluate the key positions to reinforce in the spine in 2021, with Colombian or foreign players ”.
Finally, Medellín highlighted that this coaching staff “will have at its disposal a roster made up of 30 players, 18 of them are from the Basic Forces and 13 have already had the opportunity to debut as professionals. We wish them every success on this path ”.
