They say the second parts are not good and the third part is the charm. In Javier Álvarez’s case, his stage as coach of Deportivo Independiente Medellín started in 2005, after having been a team player between the 70’s and 80’s. His team’s balance was 31 games played, with 14 wins, five draws and 12 losses. Scoring 47 goals and receiving 41. For a performance of 50.5 percent.
He then returned as a sports manager in November 2013 until June 2015 with discreet results in sports and an alleged exit on bad terms from the red institution. In 2015, he even put on the coach’s suit again to direct a DIM game.
It was on October 2, when the paths of Álvarez and Independiente Medellín crossed, including an old squire of Juan Carlos Osorio as Humberto Sierra and Jesús Duque as a physical trainer. On a cold and rainy afternoon in Medellín, Javier’s third era began in the technical command of the town team, with an unfavorable climate and with the mission of classifying the DIM into the group of eight, something that has not happened for more than a year and a half.
“It is a very nice challenge. With a good job, we want to take advantage of the opportunity that Medellín is a winning team that represents the fans and the city well. This team gives a lot of relevance to young players, the idea is to consolidate them, that they can train and achieve classification among the eight, ”said Álvarez, who signed a contract that binds him to the institution until December 31, 2021.
“I was contacted by the club’s sports committee, we sat down to analyze this project, it is very beautiful and we have experience training players. We have a lot of energy and we hope to achieve good results. Regardless of what happened before, I always ended up in good relations. We have a sense of belonging to the institution, we love the team and we expect a team that plays well and represents the fans and the region, “he added.
Javier and his collaborators will begin working with the team from Monday, October 4. Meanwhile, Ricardo Calle will go as the manager in charge to Bogotá for the match against La Equidad.
As for what he has seen of the squad, “there is a very good mix of experienced players with young people that we can strengthen. Ricardo (Calle) has the knowledge of the squad and we believe we can do a good job. We want the team to is well placed in the table and that the players improve in sports and as people “.
Finally, the former coach of teams such as Once Caldas, Atlético Huila, Plaza Amador de Panamá, Aucas de Quito, among others, highlighted that “we assume this challenge, in crises we have to transform opportunities and that is what we want. Hopefully we will achieve the purpose. we have with the team. We hope that with our work and results, we can find that job stability to accompany the sporting project. All players will have the opportunity, including foreigners. We will focus on performance, commitment and whatever they want contribute to the team “.
