Without an agreement, it closed the week that was key to the negotiations to increase the minimum wage for 2021, so the decision would be left to the National Government, which must issue a decree before December 30.

The agreement was not possible, despite the fact that the businessmen raised their proposal to increase the minimum, from 2% to 2.7%, which in pesos would represent going from $ 17,556 to $ 23,700 more.

With this proposal, the salary would remain at $ 901,504 and the transportation assistance, with an increase of 5.49%, would remain at $ 108,496, for a total of $ 1,010,000.

Labor Minister Ángel Custodio Cabrera said that if new proposals are presented, a new session will be agreed to discuss them. “There was no agreement regarding the minimum wage. The parties expressed their intention to meet in case of new proposals. From now on, the national government will evaluate what it is going to do. We have until December 30 to make a decision. “

For his part, the president of the National Federation of Merchants (Fenalco), Jaime Alberto Cabal, pointed out that the new approach of the unions is a very important effort for the moment that the country is experiencing. “There is great uncertainty about what will happen in labor matters in the next year,” he noted.

No possibility of agreement

The president of the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT), Diógenes Orjuela, said the current situation makes it practically impossible for there to be an agreement. “Entrepreneurs propose a new formula to have a global minimum of $ 1,010,000, a figure that is about $ 100,000 different from our proposal of $ 1,120,000,” he said.

He indicated that this situation is aggravated by the Government’s position of refusing to speak on crucial issues such as basic income, the formalization of the staff and the refusal to repeal Decree 1174 on the Social Protection Floor. “The national government continues to maintain its policy of stinginess that, combined with the petty proposal of the businessmen, has led to no expectation of agreement,” he said.
