Health workers in Santa Marta organized a moving tribute.
This Saturday the death of a general practitioner, who worked in the Cehoca clinic, where he would have contracted the virus, was confirmed.
The doctor treated several infected patients.
The deceased was the professional Enrique Gamarra, 63 years old.
He was hospitalized for almost two weeks in a healthcare center in the city.
The doctor was fired by colleagues and employees of various city clinics, who honored him with a street of honor.
In silence and with a raised hand they waited for the funeral carriage to transport their remains to their final resting place.
The employees carried banners with messages of struggle and white flowers.
“It hurts us deeply to fire another hero, it hurts us to say goodbye to an exemplary and upright man, to a professional who gave his all as a doctor and friend. Today we say goodbye to him, meanwhile as a team and united we continue this tireless fight for the recovery of others infected by the pandemic, “said Jaime Arce García, president of the Prado Clinic to the Monitoring portal.
The doctor’s remains were transferred to the Jardines de Paz de Santa Marta cemetery where he was buried.
The National Institute of Health (INS) reported that, in Colombia, there are already 459 cases of Covid-19 in health workers.
In Santa Marta, 44 employees in this sector have tested positive for coronavirus, and a nurse and her husband died from the virus.
