After the painful 6-1 win by Ecuador over Colombia, in Quito, for the fourth round of Qualifying, the repercussions for the scoreboard do not stop, however, the call of soccer personalities is to unite and solve problems.

Back in 2007, in the Copa América in Venezuela, the Colombian National Team started the tournament with a 5-0 defeat against Paraguay; the last one before the win on November 17, 2020.

In that game, full-back Gerardo Vallejo started and played all 90 minutes. Without a doubt, a bulky result that the former right-back referred to in a conversation with GolCaracol.com.

From Medellín, preparing to be a professional soccer coach and with a team of more than 180 young people, Vallejo Matute spoke with this portal.

Your opinion after the last result (6-1) of the Colombian National Team?

“I think that in the last presentations the National Team did not find that game identity that has always characterized us. We know that it is not easy to assimilate nine goals in two games, in the way that commitments were lost, but I think this is a moment where we also have to support the boys, because there are more positive than negative things that they have given us. demonstrated ”.

Is this saying that your message is one of optimism?

“Nobody likes to live a moment like the one the national team is experiencing; this is the opportunity for us as colleagues, as soccer people we have to support these guys who have always given their best.

How to overcome and face a crisis like the one that the Colombian National Team is experiencing?

“The first thing you have to do is a self-assessment. See what was left to do, what mistakes were made and from that recognition within the team the first step is taken to improve in all aspects, from the strategic, from the tactical. It is about working to continue growing and thus achieve the ultimate goal, which is to get to Qatar ”.

At the time, how did the team get up?

“Important is the self-evaluation of each one and the second, if they have to say things face to face they have to do it, based on respect, that way positive things will be achieved. One cannot hide if a partner is low; You have to tell him the mistakes and the reason for his bad moment, from there we will find the way to the victorious path ”.

And given the problems in the internal of the current National Team, what can be done?

“The great and experienced players of the National Team have to stop along the way and review what is happening. If there is a problem in the dressing room, we have time to solve it; that’s where the leading players are required, to bring the team together. Football is also about telling us the truth when it comes time, about facing us when we have to, but always starting from respect. If this is done, it will give us a lot to grow. Not for two games will we be the worst, one of the best in South America and at the world level. This is the moment to support the National Team ”.

What is your opinion of Carlos Queiroz?

“We must have respect for the coach. He is an experienced coach, who little by little has gotten to know Colombian football, which has been injecting him with things that suddenly the National Team had not had at the time. For two games we still have time to improve things ”.
