After the cold-blooded murder of a man in the La Favorita sector, in the town of Keneddy, this news outlet undertook the task of investigating what is happening with the security in the Colombian capital.

The first thing we were able to establish is that there is a war between drug gangs in the city. These are led by Colombian criminals, but they are also made up of criminals of Venezuelan origin.

One of those organizations would be responsible for the cruel homicide in La Favorita. Its modality is really savage: they not only kill their victims, but, as in this case, they record the deaths and circulate the videos on social networks to generate fear. The strategy of terror, neither more nor less.

Likewise, we were able to establish that in this area of southern Bogotá there are at least three very dangerous gangs that are in dispute: Los Costeños, Los Amarilo and Los Naranjas. But not only there is there concern. Los Paisas, the bloodiest of all, commit crimes in at least half of the city.

And in the center of the capital, things are also very tense. According to Ariel Ávila, analyst and conflict expert, the new organizations “have displaced prostitutes, trans women,” and have been colonizing sectors such as Santa Fe. In the background there would be a large business of criminal income.

In fact, a team from Noticias Caracol traveled to that area and, in a matter of seconds, was surrounded by motorcyclists who alerted the sex workers to our presence and then attacked us. They seem to be the masters and lords of the place.

According to the Secretary of Security of Bogotá, Hugo Acero, this year there are more than 200 dismantled gangs and at least a thousand arrests. In the sights would be another 20 groups dedicated to all kinds of crimes.
