In a fight to theft of a truck, criminals shot a 13-year-old girl in Bogotá

At 10:00 pm on Thursday, November 12, in the Colón neighborhood of the town of Puente Aranda in Bogotá, criminals tried to steal a truck with members on board. For refusing to hand her over, the criminals repeatedly shot the glass of the vehicle, hitting a 13-year-old girl who was inside.

The incident happened while the family was arriving at their home and preparing to park the truck in the garage of the house. Apparently, the criminals already had identified the victims, the home and the vehicle they intended to steal. The worst part of the situation was taken by the youngest daughter of the family, who in the middle of the robbery was shot in the face.

Following the unsuccessful robbery attempt, the criminals fled the scene in a van and several motorcycles. Later, the girl was transferred to the Immediate Medical Attention Center (Cami) of the Galán neighborhood, but due to the severity of the injuries it was necessary to refer her to the Santa Clara Hospital in the Antonio Nariño town.

The minor has an eye contusion, product of the shot received and is in the ICU of the hospital. Her mother calls out to the authorities to stop crime in Bogotá:

“It is very wrong, the call we make is to Claudia López and the Police, so that they please help us so that this does not go unpunished. Apart from everything we are in a state of alteration because they already have the house located for us“the mother of the minor injury told Noticias Caracol.

Meanwhile, through witnesses and security cameras, the authorities are looking for evidence to capture and prosecute those responsible. The Police offered 20 million pesos as a reward for those who give information that allows finding the whereabouts of the criminals. “We sympathize with the little girl and her family, praying for her recovery and committing ourselves to carry out the corresponding investigation, to capture those responsible,” Major Danny Bobadilla, commander of the Puente Aranda Station Police, told Noticias Caracol.

According to statistics from the Bogotá Security Secretariat, theft of people in its different forms is one of the crimes that most concerns citizens, especially considering that in many cases they lead to assaults and homicides. Figures from the District indicate that automobile theft fell by 10.3%, motorcycle theft by 21.4%, commerce by 42% and residential theft by 21%.

Compared with 2019, theft from people (which includes theft of cell phones, bicycles and other items) presented a decrease of almost 36% in the general consolidated, passing 104,394 complaints to 66,422 so far in 2020.
