Miguel Borja is excited about this “final” – as he calls it – against America. Since his arrival in Barranquilla, the Cordoba forward set himself a clear goal: “Be part of a champion team with Junior”. That is why the rojiblanco striker sees this Super League title as the perfect opportunity to fulfill that old fan’s wish.

“Since I got to Junior I thought about this game, which was said to be in Miami as a neutral venue. Since I saw that final on the calendar I thought it was the perfect opportunity to be in a Junior team as champion. I came for that and we have it there. Tuesday is the first game against America and we are working very hard to arrive in optimal conditions, even if the context that surrounds this game is strange, because of everything we are experiencing ”, said the player this Wednesday at a virtual press conference.

Borja envisions an even match, with the same advantages and disadvantages for both sides. The stop for the pandemic affects, but considers that it should not be taken as an excuse for this final, where the objective is only one, to go out and win it regardless of the circumstances.

“We arrived on equal terms. America is in the same situation as us. The finals are played and won. Maybe the team’s brilliant game is not going to be seen there, because we are just starting after a long stop, but if we lift the trophy in the end, we will all be happy. I repeat, a final is going to win, without excuses. This is what we want and I think we have a good team, with experienced players, who have already been champions of this tournament and of the League. Hopefully the blessing of God accompanies us on Tuesday to take a big step and then go to Cali to get another good result, “he said.

Despite the circumstances, the rojiblanco striker envisions a great show, which will surely go from less to more as the minutes go by. Borja respects America, but trusts that Junior has the arguments to dream of the title.

“Concentration will be key in the first minutes. At the beginning, the safest thing is that both teams will look uncomfortable, because we come from one to long, but as the minutes go by, and especially in the second game, both of us are going to look more loose and it will be a nice series. It is a final and we are going to face it as such ”, he said.

“We know that America is a team that has a history and that he has top-ranking players, but Junior at home must become strong and must demonstrate in this final his greatness and the respect he has earned in recent years thanks to the titles he has won. The nine players who arrived at Junior this semester came to make history. We all had options to go to other teams, but we chose Junior because of what it represents in Colombia and South America, because it has been a protagonist in the continent. We have a strong team, we are a family and on Tuesday we must prove it in a final, “he added.

Finally, the 27-year-old forward from Cordoba spoke of his continuity (he has four months left on his contract). Borja openly showed his desire to continue, but made it clear that everything will depend on what Junior and Palmeiras decide.

“The truth is, I have not touched on the issue of my continuity either with Junior’s leaders or with those of Palmeiras. We are in God’s hands. We come here for a purpose. If it were up to me, I would stay here for three more years with all the toys, but it doesn’t depend on me. We are all aware that things changed with all this of the pandemic and the contract that one had maybe can be modified in some respects. You have to be calm. There is little left until the end of the year, but many things can happen ”, he concluded.
