A harsh impact on the island of San Andrés reported the representative to the Chamber for that department Elizabeth Jay-Pang Díaz, who assured that the economic losses were estimated at about 3,000 million pesos.
The natural phenomenon passed through the archipelago this week and, according to local media, its tail blow forced the Departmental Council for Risk Management (CDGDR) to declare the public calamity in the department.
According to the congresswoman, “an estimated loss of 3,000 million pesos, more than 40 families affected” and “all businesses in the southeast of the island and the municipality of Providencia” were affected by hurricane Eta.

He added that “it is no longer just the Eta, but the economic situation that the pandemic has left us,” which has “seriously affected the islands” that make up the archipelago and has it “at zero.”

“We need the entire National Government to work towards a solution to this problem that is exacerbated on our island (…). We need recovery and we can do that if we are committed to helping the San Andrés archipelago, ”said the congresswoman, elected on behalf of the Liberal Party.
He also said that, in the last hours, the national and local risk control authorities “are making the exact calculations of the economic losses due to the passage of Hurricane Eta.”
