President Iván Duque arrived in San Andrés on Tuesday morning, affected by Hurricane Iota, after touring some streets of that city, he boarded another aircraft to continue to Providencia, the area most affected by the climate phenomenon.

The president said that before landing they made a flight over Providencia, in which they could see the damage left by the hurricane.

This afternoon, the head of state, accompanied by senior government and military officials, travels in an aircraft to the island affected by the strong winds last Monday.

Not only do the officials go in the aircraft, but also humanitarian aid is carried, which will be complemented by that which goes on some Navy ships that try to reach that place.

Duque reiterated that in the flight they made over Providencia It could be seen from the plane that it is a destruction of 98 or 99% of the infrastructure.

“The preliminary balance is that a person who has died and another person who is missing. We hope to reach the territory to have more precise information,” said the president.

Duque pointed out that the full capacity of the National Government, the Navy, the Army and first responders is being deployed “to get to attend, evacuate some of the injured and have an immediate response capacity”.

The first versions that have emerged is that on the island there are a significant number of people who report some injuries after the passage of the hurricane, in the early hours of this Monday.
