The First Civil Court of Monteria must decide in the next few hours if the former president and senator, Álvaro Uribe Vélez, would be released or not, after admitting a Habeas Corpus, filed by the lawyer Ángelo Schiavenato.
The jurist points out that Uribe’s freedom must be granted immediately, taking into account that the arrest warrant was issued by the Supreme Court of Justice, a body that lost jurisdiction, since it is now in the hands of the Attorney General’s Office. It should be noted that Habeas Corpus is a legal procedure, by means of which any citizen can appear immediately before the judge so that he can determine the legality of the arrest.
The lawyer reiterated that the deprivation of liberty would be illegal at this stage, taking into account that the same Court declared itself incompetent since last August 31, which means that all the actions after that date would be meaningless and the deprivation freedom would be illegal.
He also assured that if the measure is denied, they still have other mechanisms for a guarantee control judge to decide the situation of the ex-president, who is deprived of his liberty at the El Ubérrimo farm, located in the rural area of the Cordoba capital. .
