The opita team beat Cortuluá 3-1 (aggregate 4-1). Yúber Asprilla, great figure.

In the heart of Valle del Cauca, far from home, Atlético Huila became champion of the Betplay-2020 Tournament that brought together 16 teams from the Colombian second division.

The opitas, who completed three titles in this contest (the others were in 1992 and 1997), reached the final game with a slight after winning 1-0 on December 23 at the Guillermo Plazas Alcid stadium with both Brayan moreno and this Saturday they repeated their triumph, 3-1, against Cortuluá on October 12.

With a vertical, fast and ordering football, they surprised with goals from Carlos Moreno (29 ‘) and Yabout Asprilla (38 ‘) in the first half. Although they suffered in the complementary stage with the discount of César Amaya (50 ‘), in the epilogue of the commitment they increased the advantage through Hárrison Otálvaro (88 ‘) to leave the best performing team of the year without an option, led by the coach Jaime de la Pava.

In this atypical season due to the pandemic, Huila, guided by Dayron perez, ranked seventh in the initial phase with 28 points. Then he won the home run over Quindío, Unión Magdalena and Llaneros to obtain the right to dispute the final of the 31st edition of this championship.

“This is the fruit of the work of the whole year, the people of Neiva deserve that the club return to First A and we will fight to achieve it. I thank God and my family for the support they have given me, ”said Asprilla, a figure at the meeting.

Game actions

Apart from the two annotations, at the end of the initial period Huila was left with one more man on the field before the expulsion of the Yeferson Paz by elbowing an adversary.

Of those initial 45 minutes, it is necessary to highlight the imbalance of Asprilla, whose goal deserved praise for its workmanship: he dodged several rivals, including the goalkeeper, and defined with great technique.

As expected, Cortuluá reacted in the final stage and discounted with Cesar Amaya (the auction diverted Yosimar Gomez) after taking advantage of a steering wheel error Diego Arias at the exit.

However, his effort did not reach him and he received the third goal from Otálvaro who sentenced the series 4-1.

Despite the loss, I am proud of this cast. This is not over and we hope to seek promotion next year, “said the winger Andrés Rivera.

The finishing touch is missing

It should be remembered that this year there is no promotion to First A, after the decision of the Dimayor assembly that postponed it to June of the coming year.

To seek that option, Huila will have two paths: to beat the champion of the first semester of 2021 in a series of two games (round trip) in the Grand Final (he will have direct quota for the 2021-2 Tournament) or win the playoff with the best of the reclassification of that championship. For now celebrate a deserved title
