A peasant identified as Luis Enrique Díaz Flórez, who was attacked by a hippopotamus when he was carrying out fumigation work on a farm located in Puerto Triunfo, Magdalena Medio Antioquia, took a tremendous scare.

The 45-year-old man, sources in the area reported, was in the Pita Station sidewalk and approached a pipe to fill the sprayer tank. At that moment he was surprised by the huge mammal that attacked him. Díaz managed to run while receiving the help of one of his companions, who, as best he could, managed to scare off the huge animal.

When they were away, using a tractor, the farmer was taken to the farm house from where he was taken to the local hospital. After hours, he was sent to a healthcare center in the municipality of Rionegro, Oriente, Antioquia.

David Echeverri López, coordinator of Forests and Biodiversity of Cornare, environmental authority of the region, insisted that this is a dangerous species for the civilian population, and therefore reiterated the need for the peasants to stay away from it.

“From Cornare we have been carrying out activities that seek to address the problem for several years, but it is a rather complicated situation, it is a very complex species to carry out any management, so what I insist is before the population to take all the precautionary measures of the case “Said the professional.

This attack comes two weeks after in the Puerto Perales township, also in Puerto Triunfo, some citizens were recorded when they molested and challenged another hippopotamus.

It is presumed that in this area of ​​Antioquia there are about 80 free hippos.
