This Wednesday, President Iván Duque announced that the American philanthropist and businessman Howard Buffet, through his foundation, donated $ 60 billion, about US 15.8 million, making it one of the largest private donations to the country.
These resources, managed through the International Cooperation Agency of the Presidency (APC), They will be invested in tertiary roads in Catatumbo, specifically in the municipality of Tibú, a region plagued by the pandemic and violence, where the construction or improvement of 7.2 km will be carried out. of regional highways and 79.81 km. of tertiary roads.

The project will last two years and will have the intervention of the Presidential Office for Stabilization and Consolidation, Invías and the National Army Corps of Engineers.
In addition, investment will be made to strengthen police services in the Catatumbo region, specifically in Tibú.

In this sense, the High Counselor for Stabilization and Consolidation, Emilio Archila, pointed out that with the money they seek “improve 15 tertiary and regional highways identified as strategic to connect small rural municipalities and the zones of legal production with the cities, the collection centers and the markets “.
Likewise, Archila said that 1,000 families will receive permission to use the properties, due to the change from coca production to other products.
The announcement of this donation had been made by the American from La Gabarra, a district of Tibú, in the heart of Catatumbo in January of this year.
