“Santander is going through a critical moment of the pandemic, because initially the curve was decelerated and stable, but since the beginning of December it has risen, reaching a variation of 35% during the last week compared to the previous one. It should be noted that, in the same way, the average daily mortality increased by 35% “Aguilar explained.
In this way, the Santander Health Secretariat points out that this trend in the capital could spread to other municipalities in the department as the weeks progress, thus generating a second peak of the pandemic.
According to Aguilar, Santander currently has a 78.16% UCI capacity, and the Bucaramanga metropolitan area 81.89%.
The governor also stated that the causes of this accelerated increase in covid-19 cases in the department is due to social indiscipline and disobedience, for which he decreed strict measures so that the crisis does not worsen.
