mePain again hits a family in the Café Madrid neighborhood, in the North of Bucaramanga. They mourn a 12-year-old boy who died after choking on a parquet tile. The news was confirmed 10 days after the tragic accident, because since he entered the Santander University Hospital, there were few life expectancies. His condition was critical.

The drama began on December 22 at 7:15 p.m. when the boy was in his home and apparently in the middle of a game he ingested the element, which remained in his throat. Seconds later, his family and neighbors experienced moments of anguish and panic. They did not know what to do. Breathing stopped abruptly and oxygen began to lack. They tried to help him, but his face began to reflect despair and he was unconscious.

Fighting for life

The parquet card would have caused obstruction in the windpipe, making it difficult for oxygen to pass into his body. Concerned about what was happening, his loved ones took the minor to the University Hospital of Santander. He passed out and was unable to breathe freely for almost 12 minutes, a time that was crucial for the child’s life.

From that day on, he entered the HUS Intensive Care Unit, and despite the efforts of the medical staff to save him, his heart did not resist and he died. While receiving professional assistance, he suffered two cardiorespiratory arrests.
