The Patriotic Union (UP), that it is an opposition party and that it brought forward its meeting this Saturday in a virtual way, proclaimed the senator Gustavo Petro as his presidential candidate.

In addition, he approved a coalition with the movement Human Colombia and announced that he will participate in an interparty consultation to choose a single candidate.
This is how he made it known Gabriel Becerra, general secretary of the community, who read the statement in which he states that “in this perspective, open to a great social and political convergence, the Seventh Congress approves supporting the candidacy of comrade and senator Gustavo Petro Urrego for the Presidency of the Republic of Colombia, within the framework of the political-electoral alliance of a programmatic nature with Human Colombia ”.
The Senator Aida Avella, the main leader of the party, celebrated that the Patriotic Union has made this alliance with Gustavo Petro.

“We want to tell Gustavo Petro that this is a broad, generous party, which has been formed in the midst of struggle and tragedy., but we are resilient, we know how to overcome each of the difficult stages that we have had throughout our personal and political life, “he said.
He Senator Petro appreciated this appointment and said he will work to win the elections in 2022 and ensure that the country is governed by a coalition that does not represent the old traditional politics.

The Alliance between UP and Colombia Humana will be based on the following pillars: The defense of life and the peace agreement, the economic reactivation, the defense of employment and decent work, the de-commodification of social rights and the defense of the public, the preservation of natural resources and the environment, the openness democracy and the defense of national sovereignty.
