The leftist leader sent a letter to López in which he says:

“Indeed, I do not have the textual statements of Mr. García Morales where he makes the specific remarks as I expressed in various interventions and statements in the media and spaces in which I have participated, with the above, I present excuses, personally and publicly to you, for this fact that it corresponds to a bad information given by one of my advisers and for this reason I retract the statements made where I mention his name ”.

This response from Petro came after four rights of petition that the journalist made to clear her name from a serious accusation against her.

In these, López Forero tells her that on September 10, 2019, in a political control debate on television, she pointed out that she was a beneficiary of the Odebrecht corruption case:

“The press played that role, we all know today from García Morales’ confession, from bribes to the press, who appear in the confessions that these former officials have already delivered (…) Marilyn Lopez, who was the party’s communications chief liberal and who works I do not know if to date in the Presidency of the Republic (…)

López Forero tells him that in a respectful way he decided to resort to Constitutional law to expressly request “That the evidence that you publicly state that you have been served to ensure that I carried out a prohibited conduct in the Colombian law”.

“In said letter, I also requested that if the evidence did not exist, he publicly retract what had been said because otherwise, my good name and honor would be updated.”

Petro, however, now accepts that he has no proof. And he tells him in his private letter that he “expresses respect for his work.”

In the midst of this debate on political control in the Senate on Odebrecht corruption, the Colombian senator Humana revealed several names of the communicators who, according to him, allegedly received money from the Brazilian company in order to “attack” the competitors of the multinational.

Among others, he also mentioned that of Ángela María Calderón Fernández, known for being a public relations officer and journalist in institutions such as the Government of Cundinamarca and in the Presidency of the Republic.

At the time, she spoke through a statement: “We cannot continue to be silent about the lying and irresponsible assertions that Mr. Gustavo Petro has been making continuously and systematically against Colombians who, as in my case, have always acted with total transparency in the exercise of our professional activities “.

Subsequently, and as a result of a conciliation in the Supreme Court of Justice, Petro retracted the statements made in Congress on September 10, 2019 against journalist Calderón.

“I retract the allegations made by me (…) in the sense that the journalist Ángela María Calderón Fernández did not receive bribes or obtain contracts from the Odebrecht firm. Consequently, I ask for public apologies for the injury that may have been suffered by said demonstrations of mine, “Petro said in the Senate Plenary.

Now, however, López Forero’s innocence was limited to a letter that she posted on her social networks.
