On the night of this Tuesday, the Governor of Santander warned that the department has not yet registered a decrease in the number of infections. On the contrary, the growth in the number of infected is constant and according to the projections of the National Government, the region is expected to reach an epidemiological peak at the end of October.
Faced with this situation, the president stressed that the battle is not over yet and it is important to maintain strategies to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, since its impact is worrying in 13 municipalities. The most delicate situation is registered in the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga, where the highest fatality rates are reported.

Aguilar insisted that they should work together and listen to the voices of the different sectors, including the expert epidemiologists who collaborate at the situational table for the management of the pandemic and thus advance in the gradual flexibility of the measures.
The fatality figures in the Department
The Government of Santander reported that while the Department has a mortality rate of 4%, this figure is exceeded in the metropolitan area, which in the case of Bucaramanga reaches 4.2%, in Piedecuesta 4.1 %, 4.5% in Floridablanca, 4.9% in Girón, while Barrancabermeja has the lowest rate in the main cities, with a 3.1% death rate from COVID-19.
Thus, in the pandemic so far, 468 people have died in Bucaramanga, 188 in Floridablanca, 138 in Barrancabermeja, 94 in Girón and 70 people in Piedecuesta have lost the battle against the virus.
In total, 1040 people have died in Santander from COVID-19.
