The decision was announced by Luis Alberto Rodríguez, director of the National Planning Department (DNP), who in the middle of the television program ‘Prevention and Action’, last Wednesday, said that the households to whom VAT will be refunded “are in a extreme poverty today ”.
Each of the families will receive $ 76 thousand. The beneficiaries were chosen by the Government taking into account the parameters set out by Rodríguez, which are households currently in extreme poverty.
The Government classified this measure as a benefit for these people. The money will be turned this year every two months, starting in April. “As Colombians, we have the obligation to maintain this program over time,” said director Rodríguez at the delivery of every two months.
Return in the pandemic
This DNP task led by Rodríguez, to return this tax, is called the ‘VAT Refund Program’, and in 2020, when the covid-19 pandemic began in Colombia, it was also launched.
When this initiative began, it reached 700,000 families living in poverty who were part of the ‘Families in Action’ program, in addition to another 300,000 people on the priority list of the ‘Colombia Mayor’ program, which provides an economic resource to older adults in the country.
At the time, the idea of the DNP was that to “face the effects of the emergency caused by the coronavirus, the National Government advanced this measure that seeks to protect and improve consumption capacity.”
Rodríguez, the head of this government entity, said that this decision has been “congratulated by international organizations and academic documents,” and added that they hope to reach all poor households in the country.
People will be able to find out whether or not they will receive this refund, through the official portal of the National Planning Department, and not through third parties, intermediaries or other web pages.
