Through a decree issued on Wednesday afternoon, the Government suspended the governor of Antioquia, Aníbal Gaviria Correa, who was once again sheltered with an insurance measure after an investigation carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office. .
This Wednesday, accusing body formally accused Gaviria for the crimes of contract without the fulfillment of legal requirements and embezzlement by appropriation in favor of third parties.
The investigation is being carried out for alleged irregularities in the contractual activity derived from the maintenance and paving works of a section of the La Paz Trunk, between La Cruzada Caucasia.

Upon being notified of the new arrest warrant, the Government proceeded to suspend Gaviria and appoint a Luis Fernando Suárez Vélez as governor in charge.
In June of last year, Suárez Vélez was already the governor in charge of Antioquia.
By decision of President Iván Duque, who was Secretary of the Government of Antioquia, assumed as Governor in charge.
The investigation
According to the investigation, the contract was signed when Gaviria Correa served as Antioquia’s governor between 2004 and 2007, and its initial value was $ 41,663,432,778.
