Although the National Government has not disclosed the percentage of increase that the minimum wage for 2021, both President Iván Duque and the Minister of Labor, Ángel Custodio Cabrera, assure that they will seek not to affect the purchasing power of workers.
Minister Cabrera explained that the increase in the minimum wage will be taken based on three key factors such as “The preservation of jobs, new generations of employment and the real value of the worker’s income.”
Cabrera, in a radio interview with the fm noted that for the Government this is a “complicated” but “extremely important” decision in the sense that a balance has to be found between “the cry of the worker” and the economic sectors, since “all have not recovered in the same way.”
He insisted that the objective is to “fulfill the promise (of President Duque) to increase the minimum wage above a million pesos “in this Government and that this is a line in which” they will always be “.
It is necessary to remember that the central government must decree the increase in the minimum wage, before December 30, as a result of the fact that there was no consensus between the workers’ centrals and the economic unions. The workers proposed an increase of 14%, while the employers closed their bet with 2.7%.
