This norm authorizes that this portfolio can attend to eventual needs of flexibility of the academic calendar at the preschool, basic and middle levels, which are identified with the certified territorial entities, while the coronavirus emergency lasts in the country.

According to the Minister of Education, María Victoria Angulo, “the decree gives the Ministry and the territorial authorities, as those responsible for the provision of the educational service, tools to achieve the learning achievements expected to be developed during the school year in the different levels and educational degrees, and that these are advanced based on the curricular adaptation implemented, and according to particular conditions that in some territories are required by the evolution of the pandemic ”.

The head of portfolio explained that “it is a very important effort by various government agencies to respond to Colombians. The educational communities know what this situation implies and in addition to the different resources that President Iván Duque has been giving to education, this is part of the reinforcement of different plans ”, referring to the economic reliefs for the sector, also announced this Thursday by the Government.

Among the stipulated benefits, Angulo highlighted, “for private schools and gardens, not only a line of credit for them and the possibility of accessing the payroll subsidy, but also a line for parents, understanding this situation.”

In addition, in higher education, “several options, supports and concrete measures: this credit line that adds up to 2.5 billion and is very important, but also the Icetex relief plan for students who have an ongoing credit. And I also speak to parents whose children are going to enter higher education in this second semester, for them resources were also allocated, so as not to need a co-debtor, “stressed the minister.

The official concluded by mentioning the measures for public universities, “that you know that by agreement we are allocating more than four billion in this four-year period. We will make an additional contribution of 97,000 million pesos, to impact this in reducing the value of tuition. And let’s not forget the students who are part of Generation E. ”

In relation to the new guideline on calendars, the Ministry indicated that it will give guidance to mayors, governors and the respective secretaries of education so that they have the necessary elements to assess the eventual needs to make the academic calendar more flexible by 2020.
