Susana Correa was appointed as the manager of reconstruction of San Andrés y Providencia by the National Government and, in one of her last statements, she gave an overview of how this process is progressing.

As announced, they are currently making progress in the collection of debris, since about 98% of that island were affected after the passage of Hurricane Iota.

“That is a much more difficult task, there is too much rubble. The mayor has already decided which are the final disposal sites for both recyclable and organic products, ”he said at a press conference.

The official indicated that since Thursday they are in this process with the members of the public forces who are in Providencia, but that this weekend 200 more people would arrive and another 410 people would start the week.

However, Susana Correa also encouraged citizens who are still in Providencia to help collect the rubble, although some of them are stealing what little was left of houses that were destroyed.

“We are also creating a strategy for each of the residents to help us with the rubble that is on their land, that is around, that comes out in their environment, in a way so that we can collect it and take it to disposal sites” , he indicated.

According to the government’s accounts, if the citizens work with the support personnel, by Thursday, November 26, the rubble collection would have already finished and thus advance in the process of rebuilding the island.

The deadline to recover the island of Providencia

A few days ago, Susana Correa had expressed that her intention, and that of the Government, is that the total reconstruction of the island last about 100 days. Although President Iván Duque supported this idea, he also opened the possibility that this process could take a little longer.

The manager of the reconstruction of San Andrés y Providencia also announced that the pier is ready to receive donations of all kinds. Apparently, citizens, like other countries, have announced their intention to help with food, items and even money. In fact, according to EL TIEMPO, the United States donated $ 100,000 and China announced $ 600,000.
