The tenth stage of the Giro d’Italia, between Lanciano and Tortoreto, of 179 kilometers, comes after the rest day with an undulating route, without great difficulties, but with an interesting ending on a circuit with dangerous walls near the finish line, some with large slopes conducive to attacks.
The first part up to Francavilla al Mare runs along the Adriatic coast with some passages through the city that require attention. When separating from the sea, the race will reach Chieti through several climbs that culminate in the Muro del Tricalle, with a very tough section at 18% that leads to the capital of Teatino.
Back by the sea to Giulianova, where after a few kilometers the “final circuit” of about 40 km dotted with walls begins.
The peloton will pass through Tortoreto for the first time to face a considerable difficulty of 2.3 kilometers at an 8.3 percent average slope. Then things get complicated with the very demanding climb of Colonnella, with ramps of up to 18 percent, followed a short distance from the Controguerra wall, where a section of 24 could leave more than one nailed.
Then you pass through Tortoreto again on another slope, a 1.8 kilometer ascent with 20 percent slopes that lead to a summit 10 km from the finish line.
Until arrival, the route no longer presents any punishment. Be downhill with the last 7 flat kilometers. The sprinters will suffer on the walls, so it is foreseeable that some “finisher” will take this tenth stage.
