Stage 2 of the Vuelta a España featured high mountains in its last 30 kilometers and this was very well used by the candidates to contest the first places of the general classification. In the peloton there were several attacks in the last hour of the race that left the group quite selected and with very few members.

The positive news for Colombia was that Esteban Chaves was able to stay in the group of favorites at all times. The bogotano was not complicated with the different movements that occurred on the day and kept his fourth place in the race.

The victory went to the Spanish Marc Soler. The Movistar team rider attacked alone on the descent of the last mountain pass and was unattainable for his rivals. 19 seconds from him came the group of candidates, with Primoz Roglic crossing the finish line in second place and Chaves in seventh.

After the first two days of the last big round of the season, the classification already has important differences. Only 7 riders have been able to keep up with the favorite Roglic, who are grouped together in just 26 seconds.
