Francisco Domínguez, 37, suffered multiple trauma injuries and cervical fractures, when a car ran over several amateur cyclists and continued on.

“We are people with family, we get up to do a sport that we like. Some people in their vehicles or on their motorcycles are unaware that there is a life that has dreams, hopes. At this moment I am struggling to be able to walk again,” he said via video.

The events occurred last Thursday when Francisco Domínguez was traveling with other cyclists in the vicinity of Palmira, in Valle del Cauca, about 25 kilometers from Cali.

The version indicates that a car, of which no further details were provided, ran over the riders. The driver of the car continued his march.

Domínguez, who is a communicator by profession and manager of a company, was left lying on the asphalt. He was assisted by colleagues and referred to a health center.
Doctors diagnosed him with multiple trauma, five fractured cervical vertebrae, a fissure in the shoulder blade, as well as lacerations.

“Thanks to the doctors and God, especially God, who gave me the opportunity to live and that the impact did not kill me,” says the cyclist, who posted a video on social networks in which he said that he had been preparing to go by bicycle to Medellín, capital of Antioquia.

“My dreams are going to be delayed a bit. I thank a lot, all the cyclists, it is a moment to be united. We are a brotherhood and we all have to fight for our lives,” he said.

The authorities indicated that security cameras and other tests that could establish the identification of the car and its driver are being reviewed.

The Human Rights Patient Defense Organization wrote: “We express all our solidarity with Francisco Domínguez, who today is recovering from the injuries suffered when his cycling team was hit by a car.”

According to the National Police, from January to August 30, 195 people who were cycling were reported and died in traffic accidents in Colombia.
