After the controversy generated in the country around this issue, the Congress of the Republic definitively eliminated Article 210 of the reform to the general system of royalties, which granted tax incentives to ‘fracking’ in Colombia.
The event occurred in the middle of the conciliation of the project. How the Chamber had approved this article but not the Senate, each corporation had to appoint a commission to choose which articles of what was approved would be part of the final text. Ultimately, one of the agreements was to eliminate the controversial article 210, which referred to fracking.

The event was celebrated by congressmen of different political tendencies.
Definitively sunk the article in favor of fracking that they put like a monkey in the royalty law.

Hydraulic fracturing or ‘fracking’ is a technique that allows the extraction of so-called shale gas, a type of unconventional hydrocarbon that is literally trapped in layers of rock, at great depth (see animation above and graphic to the right).
After drilling into shale rock, large amounts of water with chemical additives and sand are injected at high pressure to fracture the rock and release the gas, methane. When the gas begins to flow back, it does so with part of the fluid injected at high pressure.
