President Iván Duque came to the city and led the reopening of these operations in the company of the Mayor of Cartagena, William Dau; the Governor of Bolívar, Vicente Blel, the Minister of Transportation, Ángela María Orozco; and officials from Aerocivil, ANI, ProColombia and SACSA.

“Today is a very important milestone. We have seen how international flights to Colombia are restored today and the city of Cartagena begins as the host of that first international flight. We saw dozens of Colombians who are happy to return to their country, to visit their loved ones and to do so through this gate of the city of Cartagena. And I want to thank the mayor and the governor because you have put on the reactivation shirt with responsibility, ”said the Head of State.

Mayor William Dau was optimistic about the tourist reactivation that is already starting in the city. “There is a lot of optimism. The truth is that we are very happy that Cartagena is the first city to have international flights. It is a very clear message that the National Government is giving us to support tourism in Cartagena, ”Dau told El Universal.

Among the passengers were the legal director of Spirit Airlines, Daniel Camejo, Juan David Pérez, Representative to the Chamber of Colombians abroad, among others.

The Head of State made a tour of the international section of the air terminal and reviewed the biosecurity protocols for passengers, airlines and airport personnel.

“Cartagena is reactivated with responsibility, we see the hotel sector working with dynamism, the gastronomic sector. We see that tourist services such as the traditional carriage ride are also being reactivated and we see something very special, citizens motivated to get ahead. This pandemic has not gone away and it is not going to go away for a very long time. We have to live with her and we have to defeat her. Cartagena shows today that it has a civic culture and a culture of reactivation, ”said the president.

The reopening of international flights to and from Cartagena will take place gradually. This month, in addition to Spirit and Viva Air, American Airlines will also restart operations. Copa, KLM, jetBlue and probably LATAM will be doing it in October.
