Advantages of the Peak and Plate
According to the Ministry of Mobility, The benefits of this measure include both the environment and the speed conditions of vehicles in the capital of the republic.
Here are some of them:
-The road network is better adapted in valley hours for non-urgent routes in the city
-Citizen awareness is promoted in the use of private vehicles
-Modifications are generated in the schedules and travel habits, as well as the distribution of trips in the city
-The tendency to purchase an additional vehicle is mitigated, given the programming given for the use of the main vehicle
-Variables such as territories and types of road network are taken into account to establish rotations that impact the good use of the vehicle
-Attention is paid to criteria such as: road infrastructure capacity, travel speeds, percentages of use of different means of transport
-The use of alternative mobility is promoted, such as bicycles, skates, etc.
-Attention is paid to safety conditions in certain sections of the road infrastructure
-The social use of the shared car is promoted to make trips
-Human life is protected by reducing polluting emissions.
-The essential circulation of transport related to: hospital services is protected, given the contingency of Covid-19.
The peak and plate could also rule on Sundays in Soacha
During the last holiday bridges, Soacha tested the peak and plate measurement on the South Highway in the Soacha section. The mayor of this municipality, Juan Carlos Saldarriaga, He referred to the success of the experiment and assured that it was “totally satisfactory”, so he plans to study its extension for Sundays.
In the last Return Plan, vehicles were able to enter Bogotá in shifts (two free entry, one for even and one for odd).
On balance, Saldarriaga assured that during the conference, “only 10 drivers were reprimanded with a sum of 438,000 pesos and the average speed was 60-70 kilometers per hour. From Compartir to the Bosa station, the journey could take 10 minutes. This is unprecedented ”.
Although this peak and plate measure has been implemented during public holidays on the South highway (when passing through Soacha and in the Girardot-Bogotá direction), authorities evaluate an extension.
“We will be reviewing for 2021 what measures we can take on Sunday because we are also seeing high vehicular traffic on our roads”said Saldarriaga.
The decision to carry out this measure in one of the main roads of the Colombian capital, in addition to being taken in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic and the problems due to the influx of travelers, seeks important reductions in the figures and mobility times of those who return to Bogotá.
According to the latest report from the traffic authorities, 859,827 vehicles moved through the roads of Cundinamarca on the holiday bridge on November 2.
