President Iván Duque assured that the rulings of the courts are complied with, “but the failures are discussed and corrected”, during the installation of the XXVI Meeting of the Jurisdiction of Administrative Litigation this Monday.
The statement comes amid the controversy raised by Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo’s response to a Constitutional Court ruling, related to abuses by the Public Force during the recent protests of the national strike throughout the country.
“The rulings have their scope, their instances. Our Political Charter determines which are the spaces for healthy controversies to take place in the legal sphere, but the faults that can be noticed are a duty of all to correct them for the general interest of the Colombian people, ”he said.
The pronouncement came after the president of the Council of State, Álvaro Namen, indicated that in the rule of law the three powers are separated. He said that you can disagree with a sentence, but you have to abide by it, in respect of judicial independence.
Duque added that we must appeal to the Constitution as that common house that unites the institutions to face other scourges that threaten the future of the Colombian people, particularly against drug trafficking.
According to the President, this crime is a cancer that has attacked the country for decades, and that unfortunately between 2015 and August 2018 had an exponential expansion.
