Danilo Santos Pantoja Quiñónez, known by the aliases of Pocillo o Grande, 28 years old, joined the criminal networks dedicated to drug trafficking in Cauca four years ago.
In 2016, he joined the ranks of the dissidents calling themselves ‘Jaime Martínez’, under the command of Leider Johani Noscué, alias Mayimbú, and He was in charge of managing the finances from drug trafficking in Suárez and Morales.
“Pocillo” was a confidant of “Mayimbú” until the end of last year, when he was accused of having stolen about 1,500 million pesos, for which he was forced to flee the area.

In mid-January of this year, ‘Pocillo’ learned that ‘Iván Márquez’, ‘Jesús Santrich’ and ‘el Paisa’, who serve as heads of the so-called ‘Segunda Marquetalia’, were seeking to expand their criminal network towards Cauca and Nariño.
The ‘Second Marquetalia’ It is a dissidence of the former FARC guerrilla that moved away from the peace process and he continued committing crimes, according to Army intelligence, from Venezuela.
The former guerrilla chiefs designed a strategy based on sending emissaries to locate other dissidents, in Cauca and Nariño, and thus achieve an alliance for the management of drugs produced in those areas.
At the head of the idea was Luciano Marín Arango, known as ‘Iván Márquez’, who in February, before the start of the pandemic, managed to contact ‘Pocillo’, whom he appointed as head of the structure in northern Cauca, and It supported him by sending some 30 men, who moved from the eastern part of the country to the Naya region.

Parallel to this, ‘Mayimbú’ strengthened its alliances with the dissidents that call themselves ‘Dagoberto Ramos’ and ‘Carlos Patiño’, networks that at the time were part of the sixth front of the Farc and that are present in the northern part of Cauca .
In that department, according to the United Nations’ monitoring system for illicit crops (Simci), in 2019 17,356 hectares planted with coca plants were detected, which according to experts leads to a production of 150 metric tons of cocaine hydrochloride.
In addition, this is the region with the most marijuana crops – and its specialty Sinister- in the country, whose measurement has been impossible because it is in greenhouses located, mostly, in indigenous reservations.
According to General Marco Vinicio Mayorga Niño, commander of the Army’s Third Division with jurisdiction over Valle, Cauca and Nariño, the response of the dissidents in Cauca to join the ‘Second Marquetalia’ was “hostile”, since two others historical members of the Farc: Miguel Botache Santillana, alias Gentil Duarte, and Néstor Gregorio Vera Fernández, alias Iván Mordisco, who commit crimes in the eastern part of the country in the dissidents of the former first and seventh front of the Farc, they had managed, a few months ago, to align ‘Mayimbú’ to their criminal interests.
“Towards the end of February we had the report of some fighting on the western side of the La Salvajina dam, in the rural area of Suárez. Two deaths were known and at the beginning of the investigation process, it was concluded that they were clashes between the ‘Jaime Martínez’ and those of the ‘Second Marquetalia, ”General Mayorga assured EL TIEMPO.
The officer pointed out that at that time they had knowledge of the entry into the drug trafficking scene of another destabilizing factor: the ‘Second Marquetalia’, so they began to work on a plan to stop its expansion.

The war broke out on March 7, when ‘Pocillo’ entered the rural area of Morales, presenting himself as head of the ‘Second Marquetalia’, and killed Jhon Edwin Zambrano, alias David, of the ‘Jaime Martínez’.
In the middle of this complex panorama ‘Iván Márquez’ sent alias ‘Yonier’ from Guaviare, whose mission was to seek alliances with the dissidents in Nariño.
In Nariño, Simci last year detected 36,964 hectares planted with coca plants, with a production capacity of between 300 and 350 tons per year of the drug.
In this area, those of the ‘Second Marquetalia’ did not do well either, because they found the dissent ‘Oliver Sinisterra’, the largest and with the greatest war power, fractured, with a wing aligned towards ‘Gentil Duarte’.
These alliances generate instability in the territory, and therefore, deaths and massacres because they begin to register ‘purges’
“These alliances generate instability in the territory, and therefore, deaths and massacres because ‘purges’ are beginning to occur,” said the general, when analyzing the situation in these coca-growing areas.
In this rearrangement of the residual organized armed groups (Gaor), as the dissidents have been described by a directive from the Ministry of Defense, there is a silent witness who has taken advantage of the territorial war and it is the ELN.
“Those of the ‘Second Marquetalia had the mission of reorganizing the territories and proposing strategic alliances, so a small group entered Cauca. The idea was to grow and achieve control, ”said the commander of the Third Division.
The officer said that in the face of this scenario, the priority was to dismantle the ‘Second Marquetalia’, and for this the intelligence efforts were focused, in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office, on identifying their bosses and arresting them.

This is how the troops managed to locate and capture ‘Pocillo’ or ‘Grande’, in Popayán, Cauca, on October 8, and a week later, in the rural area of Cajibío, another 12 members of the ‘ Second Marquetalia ‘, among them, five Venezuelans.
Among those captured in this second phase there is Carlos Andrés Castillo Díaz, alias Costeño, who had been in charge of the structure after the capture of ‘Pocillo’. Among the seized weapons, several rifles and a grenade launcher were located.
Those captured were sent to prison, as an insurance measure, for conspiracy to commit an aggravated crime for extortion purposes and manufacturing, trafficking and carrying weapons.
The authorities highlighted that with these captures the ‘Second Marquetalia’ in Cauca is practically dismantled, which will have a direct impact on the tranquility of the residents in the region.
