Falcao García and his injuries: 2021 could be his goodbye to the Colombian National Team and to playing in Europe | Colombians Abroad

Falcao García goes through difficult times. His constant injuries have not allowed the Colombian to consolidate in Galatasaray, with which he is going for his second season. In Turkey they got tired of how little he plays and how long he has been absent due to his physical and medical problems.

Although his scoring nose is not in dispute: he scored 5 goals in the 8 Turkish Super League matches that he has been able to play (426 minutes), with an average of goal every 85 minutes. In the Istanbul team the top scorer is the Senegalese Mbaye Diagne, who has played 12 games (630 minutes) and has 6 scores, one more than the ‘Tiger’. His average, however, is one goal every 105 minutes.

At 34 years old, Radamel has been injured for a long time, that is why he has also missed important matches with the Colombian National Team, both friendly and official by Qualifiers. And before the patience that is running out in Galatasaray, his name is beginning to sound for emerging leagues, such as China and especially the United States.

That is why the question arises: will 2021 be the year of Falcao’s farewell to elite football? And the answer seems to be yes, as the Turkish press assures that Radamel would have a maximum of six months to continue in Galatasaray. If they do not get his exit in the window of the January market, they will let him finish the second season and will seek a separation from the Colombian.

The MLS would be the bet. Although it also sounded for Asian football: China is joined by Arab football.

In Europe there is no team interested in Falcao for the future, basically for three pillars: his age, his physique and his salary. The great ones look for the figures of the moment, younger and healthier; and mid-table teams don’t have the economic muscle to pay for a striker of their lineage … because that is still what he is, a gunner.

And before an imminent departure from Europe, Falcao would become a second option in the Colombian National Team. They may continue to summon him to the first qualifying days in 2021; more, if one takes into account that they will appoint a new coach and he will need the references to guide the Qualifiers and strengthen the group.

However, Falcao is no longer a permanent owner. Nor was it with Carlos Queiroz and it will not be with Reinaldo Rueda or any other coach. In addition, the National Team undergoes a generational change and has forwards who stand out in other European leagues.

Duván Zapata is emerging as Falcao’s heir. His goals in Atalanta, his 100 goals with Italian clubs, his power in the area and his collective importance, make him the one to command Colombia’s attack in the Qualifiers and the Copa América.

Behind Zapata, there are other forwards who could surpass Falcao in the National Team. By physique and youth, not by hierarchy. In line are Luis Fernando Muriel, Alfredo Morelos, Jhon Córdoba and Luis Suárez, among others, who dream of consolidating in the Tricolor and letting Falcao move away with the peace of mind that he leaves a legacy and an example to follow.
