In the midst of the demonstrations and riots that occurred on Wednesday night in Bogotá, and other regions of the country, unleashed as a result of the case of Javier Ordóñez, a lawyer and father of two children who died after a fatal attack by two agents of the Metropolitan Police of Bogotá, there was a fight between an Esmad agent and a policeman.

A video recorded the moment when Esmad agents walk with several detained people. At that moment, a policeman approaches one of them, takes out a bobbin and hits him a couple of times on the hamstrings. When they saw the abuse, the citizens who were in their houses began to shout not to hit him. After that, an Esmad agent pushed the policeman who was beating the man aside and pushed him several times.
Another policeman had to intervene to separate the Esmad agent and the police officer and avoid a dispute. However, the Esmad agent tried to approach the policeman, while his companions prevented him.

The citizens applauded the act of the Esmad agent who prevented the police from continuing to beat the protester, who was not attacking anyone.
The videos that circulated on Wednesday night report police abuses. At least seven young people were killed amid the chaos in the capital and, according to the Mayor’s Office, they died from the indiscriminate use of firearms by the Bogotá Police.
For his part, the director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency, Diego Molano, responded to the mayor that “the enemy is the vandal, not the Police.”
For this Thursday, citizens called for new demonstrations. The mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, asked that the protest be peaceful and without violence. The president also called “to calm down, to have more serene strength and to avoid provocations.”
