In a decision considered unheard of by the government of Jaime Pumarejo, the company Electricaribe sued the District of Barranquilla to claim the payment of about $ 45 billion, that would correspond to the energy consumption of the last three years of the subnormal neighborhoods of the city.
EL HERALDO met exclusively that the company “intends” for the District to respond for the energy consumed by dozens of families residing in sectors whose electrical networks have not been standardized.
Billing, in accordance with the demand, exceeds $ 45 billion, that would correspond to the accumulated of the three years of consumption of the service without making the payments.
Despite the fact that Barranquilla does not have large extensions of subnormal neighborhoods, the claim that was presented before a civil circuit court is being studied by a legal team from the Mayor’s Office, which has already presented the first considerations in this case.
“What I can tell you is that they did notify us, we have already submitted some documents to the court and we are in the exercise of defense ”, said the Legal Secretary to EL HERALDO when asked about the lawsuit filed by the electric power company.
The appeal was filed in the first days of August, in the middle of the pandemic, and the District was notified of the claim about two weeks ago.
Adalberto Palacios, Legal Secretary of the District, explained that, in this case, Electricaribe is demanding the payment of the electricity consumption of the homes, not including the public lighting service, since this is canceled through the Public Lighting society of Barranquilla (APB).
LThe defense of the District is in the hands of a group of lawyers from the Legal Secretariat, who has been working documenting the process.
