US President-elect Joe Biden won last week’s presidential election in Arizona, networks confirmed Thursday. NBC, CNN and CBS or the newspaper The New York Times.

Media such as the Fox News network, the NPR station or the AP agency screened Arizona for Biden the same election night when the Democrat led by 200,000 votes to current President Donald Trump.

However, the other media considered that decision premature and the truth is that that margin has been reduced day after day as the count progressed to the current 11,434 votes with the count practically completed.

The fact that it was precisely Fox News Trump’s favorite media, the first to project the Democratic victory in Arizona, infuriated the president, who has been convinced of his possibilities to turn the result around. Biden adds now 1,668,664 votes (49.4%) for Trump’s 1,657,250 (49.06%).

It is the first time that a Democratic presidential candidate has won in the state of
Arizona since the former president did Bill Clinton in 1996.

With Arizona’s confirmation for Biden, the democrat has 290 delegates in the Electoral College, surpassing the 270 who made him president-elect, while Trump has 217.

A winner is yet to be declared in two states, North Carolina, with Trump at the head; and Georgia, with Biden as the favorite.

Although Biden was declared the winner of the election on Saturday by surpassing 270 delegates, Trump has not yet acknowledged his defeat and has denounced, without proof, electoral fraud against him.

The outgoing president has blocked the transition process to the new government and has filed lawsuits in courts of various states to invalidate votes and turn the results around through the courts.

Trump insists there was fraud in the elections. However, authorities say “there is no evidence of that.”

I think that at some point, probably in the next few days, with the advance of the count and perhaps the rejection of certain legal resources, we will see that the differences are too great

And what about Trump’s strategy of questioning the results?

On the other hand, and with this scenario, Trump’s strategy of trying to challenge the vote count is losing more and more oxygen. With the Arizona projection, Biden adds 290 votes to the Electoral College (out of the 270 needed) and takes it even further.

But, in addition, the thesis that the Trump campaign manages that there was supposedly fraud in the US is also being dismantled. In fact, this Thursday, the country’s electoral authorities gave a joint press conference in which they stated that “there is no evidence of lost or changed votes or altered voting systems “.

At the moment, scrutiny continues in some key states, including Pennsylvania, and a manual recount has just been announced in Georgia. But each state has a deadline for the electoral authorities to certify the result and validate the vote count: Georgia has until November 20; Pennsylvania through 23, Arizona through 30.

“I don’t think we have to wait for each state to formally certify its results.”said John Fortier, an elections specialist with the Bipartisan Policy Center, an organization that seeks to build bridges between Democrats and Republicans.

“I think that at some point, probably in the next few days, with the advance of the count and perhaps the rejection of certain legal remedies, we will see that the differences are too great to wait for a reversal through legal action “he added. “I think this is how the matter is going to be resolved.”.

December 14 is the actual deadline, as it is when the large voters of each state must meet at the Electoral College to formally elect the president, a vote in principle dictated by the majority of the popular vote in the respective demarcations.

Voting in Wisconsin

This year in the United States there was a massive mailing of votes as a result of the pandemic.

China congratulates Biden

China congratulated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, president and vice president-elect of the United States, on Friday for their victory in the presidential elections on November 3.

“We respect the choice of the American people and convey our congratulations to Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris.”said the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Wenbin, during the daily press conference. “We understand that the outcome of the US elections will be decided according to your laws and procedures.”added Wang.

This is the first time that China has officially recognized the results of the US elections, almost a week after Biden declared his victory.

Beijing and Washington have tense relations that have been deteriorating rapidly since March 2018, when outgoing US President Donald Trump launched a trade war.

What began as an exchange of tariffs and negotiations to try to balance the trade balance (largely beaten on the Chinese side) has been extended to other sectors. Over the months, the situation has led to a “cold War” which confronts both powers also on a technological and strategic level, with increasingly frequent friction in the waters of the South China Sea.

The still president of the United States has repeatedly accused China of being responsible for the covid-19 pandemic and has even spoken of the “Chinese virus” in reference to the pandemic that has also hit his country hard.
