Edwin Caro Gómez, the policeman who died in a shooting in Bogotá

The young patrolman, who had graduated in October, confronted the suspects who were on Carrera Séptima and Calle 79. Police revealed video in which one of the men is seen to drop the weapon in a green area.

The shooting that took place on the afternoon of this Wednesday, March 10 in the north of Bogotá, left Edwin Caro Gómez as a victim, a police patrolman who had been in service for five months and who, according to the institution, was part of the quadrant 12 of the town of Chapinero.

The young man from Puertorrico, Antioquia, entered the institution in 2019 and graduated in October 2020. “Before it was a dream, now it is a reality, more than a year ago I entered school with a suitcase more than loaded with material things , it came loaded with many dreams and goals. Today that first dream is fulfilled, that first goal, along the way I learned too many things, “wrote Caro Gómez on her social networks after the ceremony.

The facts were presented on the Carrera Séptima with calle 79. In the midst of control searches, the uniformed men, among whom was Caro Gómez, intercepted two suspects who when trying to search fired at the uniformed man.

In the middle of the shooting, one of the individuals was injured and later died. The other, as evidenced by security cameras, in the middle of the flight drops the weapon in the middle of one of the green areas of the sector.

For the moment, the authorities have already started the investigation, while the area continues to be cordoned off by the authorities. Mayor Claudia López reported that the Secretary of Security, Hugo Acero, is heading to the area, as well as the commander of the Bogotá Police, Óscar Gómez.

Likewise, the Police invited citizens to participate at 6:00 pm this Wednesday in a tribute to Edwin Caro, in which they will wave white handkerchiefs.
