At the closing of the meeting of Leaders of Southwest Antioquia, the president again referred to the alleged ‘entrapment’ that led to the investigation for drug trafficking against Jesús Santrich and again criticized the transitional justice system.

“I cannot understand, as they appear now, public defenders of Jesús Santrich, a criminal who told the victims to the face ‘perhaps, perhaps, perhaps, about whether they would assume penalties”, and was later captured for extradition and he ended up with a series of benefits mocking the Colombians and then he went out to carry machine guns ”.

The president insisted that Santrich is not a holy dove but a narco-terrorist, and he told the dissidents of the Nueva Marquetalia (which he called Narcotalia) that the government is going to confront them with total determination and “they will have no lair to hide in.”

He again criticized transitional justice and pointed out that those most responsible for atrocious crimes are not compensating the victims or assuming their responsibility for the recruitment of minors or for the rape of women in the conflict, nor have they handed over drug trafficking routes to be able to confront this phenomenon.

In parallel to this and in the company of the governors of Caldas and Antioquia, he referred to the security challenge that exists in this area of the country, in the face of the increase in homicides and extortion.

He assured that his Government has faced the phenomenon of micro-trafficking and criminal gangs that occurs in the area, and stated that the Government will continue to confront it with all available forces.

Faced with this security issue, the Governor of Antioquia, Aníbal Gaviria, presented the government with a list of six priorities to attack this problem, as the situation is complex according to the governor. “As of today in the southwest, homicides have increased 92 compared to the previous year, this increase has been entirely in rural areas,” he added.

For this reason, he asked the government for mobility for the Armed Forces so that they can provide security and made a call to attack criminality with technology.
