Duque dismisses Néstor Humberto Martínez as ambassador to Spain

In an interview with Noticentro 1 CM &, the president confirmed that the ambassador in that country will be Luis Guillermo Plata and that the former prosecutor will integrate “some commissions” to strengthen the fight against organized crime.

Much had been speculated about the arrival of ex-official Néstor Humberto Martínez to the Colombian Embassy in Spain, however, in an interview this Wednesday with Noticentro 1 CM &, it was the same president Iván Duque Márquez who cleared up the doubts and ruled out that Martínez would arrive to that position of international representation.

From the outset, Duque replied that the ambassador in Madrid will be Luis Guillermo Plata, current manager of the pandemic. “Former Minister of Foreign Trade, a man who knows Europe’s commercial relationship very well, was the one who led the FTA negotiation with the European Union, a man of great capabilities,” Duque commented on Plata.

In addition, he revealed in the news that he has already presented the name of Plata before the authorities of Spain.

In the same sense, he also indicated what would be the near future, within his Government, of former prosecutor Martínez, recently in the public arena after the revelations of an alleged concealment of information from the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) in the Santrich case. .

In what the president did not skimp was in praising Martínez. “When I became president, Dr. Néstor Humberto Martínez was attorney general, appointed by the previous government, he had been minister of the Presidency. I arrived and found a person committed to fighting crime, ”said Duque.

In that sense, he assured that he has invited him on previous occasions to “share ideas and proposals with us. I have and will continue to do so. And we are going to invite him to participate in one of the commissions that we are going to do for analysis on specific issues to strengthen the fight against organized crime, “he added.

In the same interview with Noticentro 1 CM &, Duque also ratified that the Government does not support the initiative of former Senator Uribe to reduce the working day from 48 to 40 hours a week, he said he was satisfied with the work that Ambassador Francisco Santos and He avoided talking about the possible arrival of the Minister of Finance, Alberto Carrasquilla, to the Banco de la República, although he threw flowers: “I’m not going to speculate. Alberto Carrasquilla is an extraordinary human being, one of the best economist in Latin America ”.

On the matter, Senator Iván Cepeda, of the Democratic Pole, spoke, who celebrated the president’s decision not to appoint Martínez as ambassador to Spain, however, said he was concerned that “a severely questioned person will occupy an important position of advising in a commission that fixes the policy against the crime ”.

“Mr. Martínez Neira has been accused in public debates and in Congress of all kinds of actions that should be investigated by an independent body. Unfortunately, they are in the hands of the House Investigation Committee, where these investigations will not be able to advance. Martínez should be removed from all public office and be held accountable, ”the senator noted.
