President Iván Duque continues to make changes in the cabinet. This Thursday he appointed Felipe Buitrago as the new Minister of Culture, who will replace Carmen Vásquez, who will be Colombia’s ambassador to Uruguay.
The head of state thanked Vásquez, who held the Culture portfolio since 2018. “We appreciate his management, where he carried out the implementation of the Orange Law, the largest historical budget for the sector and the ReActivarte Law,” he trilled.

The new ambassador, Duque said, achieved “the expansion of the BEPS for cultural managers and a dynamic program of calls to mobilize resources for cultural management and heritage protection.”

Felipe Buitrago, who will occupy the Culture portfolio, served as Vice Minister of Creativity and Orange Economy of the Ministry of Culture, a position he has held since September 2019.
He has more than 18 years of experience in the culture sector. He was a consultant for the Division of Cultural Affairs and Creativity of the IDB, director of the Ibero-American Copyright Observatory and developer of Creative Economies of the British Council.
He is an economist from the Universidad de Los Andes and a master’s degree in International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University SAIS.
Buitrago is very close to President Iván Duque, together they wrote the books La Orange Economy and The neckless economy.

Duque assured that his main objective is to achieve “a greater contribution in opportunities and jobs, as well as in the recovery of the sector from the impact of the pandemic.”
In addition, another of its challenges is to offer more culture and guarantee access to diverse cultural goods and services in order to “be able to positively impact the most determining issues of society, facing the progress of the country in the short, medium and long term” .
