President Iván Duque announced on Monday morning that he expects the test vaccination to begin in Colombia this week. Although he specified that the massive shielding will begin in February, he announced that between now and Wednesday the first doses could reach the country.

Duque, in dialogue with Blu Radio, said: “We hope to begin mass vaccination by the month of February. The test vaccination can be this week, the following or the first of January“, indicated the head of state.
In addition, he recalled that “within the first phase we also have teachers.”
The president assured that personally he does not seek any preferential treatment in terms of vaccination, but that he would be willing to be immunized before in order to do pedagogy.

“I am far from that risk. I want to do it according to the guidelines of the health system”declared the head of state.
Last Friday, during the program Prevention and action, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Fernando Ruiz Gómez, presented the National Vaccination Plan against covid-19, after announcing that the country bought 40 million doses of biologicals for 20 million Colombians, which will be applied free of charge in 2021 , taking into account that the vaccine requires two doses per person.
The National Government signed the contract with AstraZeneca on December 16, for 10 million doses, and on December 17 with Pfizer, for the same amount. In addition, since October 30, the multilateral agreement with the Covax mechanism was signed, for 20 million doses, for a total of 40 million that will arrive in Colombia in the course of next year.
“We will be doing the entire enlistment process during January; We will be initiating mass vaccination in February and if, as in other countries, we have access to test vaccines, we will also be initiating trial vaccination processes in January ”, he stated.

The minister was emphatic in stating that all the acquisition and plan decisions have been made with technical rigor. Specific information has always been given based on certain contracts and agreements. The strategy has been based on the acquisition of a diversified portfolio. “A cost-benefit balance has always been sought so as not to risk public resources, all in order to deliver safe and effective vaccines to citizens,” he said.
