After several days of having been in virtual training and working on about nine TransMilenio buses, a driver of the Bogotá public transport system died of covid-19.
The operator of the Somos U dealership, who was on vacation from Thursday, April 2 to Saturday, April 11, would have returned to work on Sunday, April 12, without showing any signs of affecting his health.
From Monday, April 13, and from the comfort of your home, you were in virtual theoretical training until Friday, April 17.
Between Monday, April 20 and Friday, 24, he would have worked on about 9 trunk buses in the system, and according to TransMilenio, he would have rested on Wednesday, April 22.
During this period, he and all the dealership personnel had their temperature taken daily, and he never developed a fever. It was not until April 25 when the operator informed the dealer that he had flu symptoms, which according to his version would be related to having gotten wet in the previous days during a downpour, while traveling on his motorcycle.
However, the security protocol established in these cases was activated and was isolated in his home with constant accompaniment by the dealer and EPS.
The day after the report, EPS took the corresponding samples of covid-19 from him and his wife, and he continued the isolation at home, as established by security protocols.
On April 29, he was transferred to the Suba hospital for having difficulty breathing, but from there they would have referred him to the Simón Bolívar hospital to attend to his respiratory complications. The hospital reported his death on Thursday April 30 due to cardiorespiratory arrest.
The covid-19 test performed on the operator was positive, and TransMilenio S.A. was notified on Saturday, May 2.
The operators or drivers of the system, who are being isolated with security tapes in the area of the operator’s cabin, will have more preventive measures to protect their health. Through its Twitter account, the entity indicated: “A distance of 2 meters was defined for the care of drivers and users”, which will be marked by a chain with a message and leaves the area of chairs located behind them free, to avoid contact and closeness with users.
Each of the nine buses that were handled by the operator in the five days he worked has a record of washing and disinfection.
The dealer established preventively who were the people with whom the driver had contact in his last days, to carry out the respective monitoring and isolation.
The District Health Secretariat is carrying out the corresponding epidemiological surveillance of the case.
